One of campus’ most active organizations, SPEED (Students Programing for Enrichment, Enlightenment and Development) is focused on providing students with opportunities to connect with others and expand on their education. Throughout the year, SPEED organizes and host events such as finals fest, charity events, a Six Flags trip, homecoming and more that connect students with a variety of interests.
SPEED is defined by the strong bond between participants. By joining events, SPEED students are able to network with others to not only create personal relationships but professional ones as well. Synia Agnew, one of the organization’s advisors, observed that being a part of the organization grants the opportunity to organize unique events and gain valuable experience. “It does give transferable skills that can be applied outside of SPPED,” she says. “Once people get into grown-up careers, these are the skills that they are developing that they can apply.”
SPEED events are great opportunities for students looking for an open environment to meet others and create lasting relationships. Dulce Gomez remarked, “Being at the events gets you to know everyone, and before you know it, you’re saying ‘hi’ to a bunch of people in the hallway.” No matter if you live on campus or commute to ƽ, students have the opportunity to connect with others outside of their major. SPEED events give students the opportunity to step back from their schoolwork and de-stress from the routine of class, homework, and study.
