About Me

Dr. Ashley Pribyl is an Assistant Professor of Music History and Theatre History at °µÍø½ûÇøÆƽâ°æ. She received her PhD in Musicology from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was a Harvey Fellow in American Studies and a Graduate Fellow at the Center for the Humanities. Her research focuses on the intersection of cultural politics and the Broadway musical, specifically the works of Harold Prince and Stephen Sondheim. 

She has published articles in Studies in Musical Theatre, as well as special essay collections dedicated to the work of Sondheim. Dr. Pribyl’s current book project, Company: Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality through an American Musical focuses on the 1970 musical Company and what it reveals about changes in popular depictions and definitions of marriage in the United States over the past half century. She has received funding from the Society for American Music and the New York Public Library for this project.
